Drop Pop” (@TheDropPop) on X, formerly Twitter revealed that the Stranger Things star actor has passed away: “Noah Schnapp is dead at 19.” According to the channel, NoaNoah died fom an apparent suicide following mental health battles.

Schnapp, a Jewish man, posted a comment on Instagram shortly after the first details of the Hamas attack became public. The phrase “You either stand with Israel or you stand with terrorism” infuriated a number of his supporters, despite his expression of sympathy for civilians on all sides of the conflict. Boycott demands for Stranger Things quickly ensued after Israeli actress Noa Tishby accused Schnapp of admiring “Islamophobic” social media messages. Some fans have requested that Schnapp be written out of the fifth and final season of the science fiction popular show. Schnapp has been playing Will Byers, one of the major characters, since the first season.

Schnapp faced more criticism in November after posting a video to Instagram that included a sticker that said, “Zionism is sexy.” The goal of Zionism, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is the “re-establishment and (now) the development and protection of a Jewish nation in what is now Israel.” In less than a month, the Teen Choice Award winner lost more than 491,000 social media followers. In an attempt to elucidate his stance, Schnapp responded to the negative social media feedback on TikTok on January 15.

But his remarks caused a rift on the internet. While some users applauded Schnapp’s openness and willingness to learn more about the subject, others thought the comment was merely meant as “damage control” to prevent him from being “fired from Stranger Things.”

“I feel like my thoughts and beliefs have been so far misconstrued from anything even close to what I believe, and I wanted to just state from my heart how I feel,” I only want peace and safety and security for all innocent people affected by this conflict. I’ve had many open discussions with friends from Palesti—Palestinian background and I think those are very important conversations to have and I’ve learned a lot.” Schnapp hopes for an “end to the hostility on both sides” and hopes people will act “more understanding and compassionate.

Feel free to leave a message of condolences and prayers for the family and friends of the deceased in the comments section as it will go a long way for them during this difficult time.
