Roger Cook Illness Update – After a protracted illness, Roger Cook, who appeared on PBS’ renowned This Old House home improvement program for almost 40 years, passed away on August 21. He was seventy.
In the second season of the show, This Old House, Cook made his television debut in 1982. In 1988, he was elevated to the position of cast member and landscape and garden contractor. He left the program in 2022 because of health problems.
Cook concluded the series by saying, “I have enjoyed the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for landscaping.” “And the friendships and professional connections I’ve made over the years have considerably enhanced my life.
I sincerely appreciate the devotion of our fans and their concern for my well. You may be confident that I am in capable hands, and please know that I appreciate all of your help.
Cook grew raised in Woburn and Burlington after being born in Biddeford, Maine. He worked summers as a landscaper and part-time throughout high school. He continued on to the University of Maine, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in wildlife management and conservation law.
Cook and his wife Kathy started K&R Tree and Landscaping in 1982, and for more than 40 years, they jointly owned and ran the business.
A statement on the series’ website said, “Roger was our much-loved colleague, treasured by the entire This Old House community for his soft-spoken but no-nonsense approach to every aspect of landscape contracting.” “He had the answers we needed, no matter what.”
Chris Wolfe, executive producer of This Old House, continued, “I recall every lesson that Roger taught me. More significantly, everything Roger taught them has improved the lives of millions of others.
