Sophia DeTorres North Hunterdon Accident: North Hunterdon High School student died in crash

Sophia DeTorres North Hunterdon Accident – On her way to the first day of classes on Thursday, a girl was murdered in a car accident near the intersection of Hogback and Sydney Roads in Franklin Township. North Hunterdon High School is in mourning.

Although Sophia DeTorres, 17, has not received formal confirmation from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office or the school system, the community has shown respect for her on many online forums.

The organizer of the fundraiser reported that by early Friday afternoon, more than 250 people had contributed nearly $17,000 to a gofundme effort created to aid the teen’s family and her brother George, who was evacuated from the scene. Twenty-five thousand dollars is the goal.

“We, the school community, offer our sympathies to this student’s friends and family. This devastating death has had a significant impact on North Hunterdon High School. In addition to losing a classmate, our pupils are also grieving the death of a friend.

I’m pleased with how our school community is pulling together to help one another get through this trying time. Greg Cotrell, the principal of the Clinton Township school, said, “I expect that our school community will continue to console each other in the days and weeks ahead as we process the loss.”

Students who have lost a loved one can visit with school counselors and members of the Child Study Team. There are also counselors available from the Traumatic Loss Coalition and Voorhees High School.
